Can you believe we've already reached the final week of our Summer Favorites series?

This month has been about so much more than recipes.

Food is a lot like music to me. One bite, one smell, or one family recipe can instantly take me back to a moment in time. It brings back memories, stirs emotions, and reminds me of the people I love most. And if I'm honest, I tend to hold on to the happy ones.

That's what this month's Foodie Friday series has really been about.

We started with homemade peach ice cream because, if you've followed me for very long, you know I'm just a little obsessed with peaches. This year, a new friend surprised me with some amazing Georgia peaches, and there was no better way to kick off our Summer Favorites series.

Then we moved on to watermelon because nothing says summer quite like sitting outside with sticky hands, watermelon juice running down your arms, laughing with family, and making memories you'll never forget.

Last week was all about John's favorite—fried chicken. Whether it's homemade, semi-homemade, or picked up from Golden Chick or Chicken Express on the way home, it always brings everyone to the table.

And now...

We're finishing the meal with a few of my family's favorite side dishes.

🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes

If there's one person in my family who loves potatoes, it's my youngest sister.

Honestly, I don't think she's ever met a potato she didn't like!

But mashed potatoes are definitely her favorite.

And when she makes them, butter isn't really an ingredient...

It's more of a suggestion to add another stick! 😂

Sometimes I'll even use cream instead of milk if I'm feeling a little fancy. Rich? Absolutely. Worth it? Every single bite.

🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes

Every family has certain foods that instantly make someone smile.

For my mom and my older sister, it's fried green tomatoes.

The minute they're on the table, I know they're happy.

Maybe it's because they remind them of growing up. Maybe it's because they're simply delicious. Whatever the reason, they've always been one of those dishes that brings back wonderful memories.

I think that's what makes food so special.

Sometimes it isn't really about the recipe at all.

It's about the people you're sharing it with.

🌽 Easy Skillet Cornbread

Now I'll let you in on a little secret...

I've never been very successful making cornbread completely from scratch.

I've tried.

More than once.

But honestly? A box of Jiffy (or another favorite cornbread mix) works just fine in my kitchen.

I like to doctor it up by adding a can of cream-style corn. It makes the cornbread a little sweeter, a little more moist, and it always seems to disappear quickly around our table.

The one thing I never skip is baking it in my favorite cast-iron skillet.

That hot skillet gives the edges a beautiful golden crust while keeping the middle soft and tender.

Then, while it's still warm, I slather on plenty of butter and watch it melt into every bite.

Warm cornbread fresh from the oven just feels like a hug.

And honestly...

I've learned over the years that dinner doesn't have to be perfect to be memorable.

Sometimes the best meals come from recipes that have been tweaked, shortcuts that save a little time, and a kitchen that's just a little messy.

Because at the end of the day, no one remembers whether the cornbread came from scratch or from a box.

They remember who they shared it with.

🍽️ Our Summer Favorites Menu

Over the past four weeks, we've built one of my favorite summer meals.

🍑 Homemade Peach Ice Cream

🍉 Fresh Watermelon Salsa & Watermelon Slush

🍗 John's Favorite Fried Chicken

🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes

🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes

🌽 Easy Skillet Cornbread

Not because it's fancy.

Not because it's perfect.

But because every one of these dishes reminds me of someone I love.

Maybe that's why I've always believed the heart of a home isn't just the walls around us.

It's the people gathered around the dinner table.

It's the laughter that fills the room.

It's the stories that get told over and over again.

It's the traditions we pass from one generation to the next.

As a Realtor, I have the privilege of helping people find houses.

But what I really hope they find is a place where they'll build memories of their own.

Thank you for joining me in my kitchen this month.

I hope these recipes inspire you to gather your family, cook a favorite meal, tell a few stories, and make a few new memories of your own.

Because food is a lot like music.

The best ones stay with us forever.

Happy Foodie Friday!
