National Wine Day is coming up on May 25, and apparently this is the time I’m supposed to confess something shocking for a Texas Realtor…

I don’t really like wine.

There. I said it.

I know somewhere there’s probably a Realtor handbook that says we’re all supposed to casually sip wine while discussing interest rates, kitchen islands, and “natural lighting.” But honestly? Most wines I’ve tried taste more like sour grapes than something I’d voluntarily drink.

Now grape juice? THAT I can get behind.

Still, I WANT to like wine. It looks classy. It looks sophisticated. And after visiting Fredericksburg years ago and seeing just how many wineries Texas actually has, I realized wine culture here is kind of a big deal. Texas is actually one of the top wine-producing states in the country, with wine trails stretching across the Hill Country and beyond.

And let me tell you… Fredericksburg winery country is beautiful.

Between the rolling hills, tasting rooms, patios, live music, charcuterie boards, and people confidently describing “hints of oak,” it almost convinced me I was a wine person. Almost.

Places like Fredericksburg Wine Road 290 have become huge destinations for weekend getaways, girls trips, anniversaries, and couples escaping Houston or Dallas for the weekend. Wineries throughout Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country continue gaining national attention for both wine and hospitality experiences.

One winery people love visiting in the Fredericksburg area is Signor Vineyards, known for its beautiful grounds, tastings, and Texas wine country atmosphere.

And honestly, we’ve got some fun wine spots much closer to home too.

Here near Montgomery and Plantersville, people enjoy spending weekends at places like:

  • Bernhardt Winery
  • DeepRoots Vineyards
  • Threshold Vineyards

Whether you’re into live music, wine tastings, relaxing patios, or just looking for a fun Texas weekend outing, these wineries have become part of the local lifestyle around Lake Conroe and Montgomery County.

Now back to my personal wine struggle…

I think I may simply need “wine for beginners.”
Maybe I’m a Moscato person.
Maybe sweet Riesling.
Maybe sangria.
Maybe something frozen with fruit in it that barely counts as wine.

Because every time someone says:
“This red has earthy notes…”

my brain hears:
“Congratulations, this grape tastes like mulch.”

So I’m officially asking for help from all the wine lovers out there.

What’s the BEST sweet wine for someone who:

  • likes sweet drinks
  • wants smooth wine for beginners
  • prefers grape juice over dry wine
  • and doesn’t want their face to immediately squinch up after the first sip?

Drop your recommendations below because I am determined to find at least ONE wine I actually enjoy.

After all, how can I truly be a Texas Realtor if I don’t occasionally hold a wine glass while pretending I know what a “finish” is?
