Labor Day isn’t just the unofficial end of summer — it’s a celebration of the American workforce. First recognized as a federal holiday in 1894, it was created to honor the contributions and achievements of workers across the country.

In Texas, Labor Day often means long weekends at the lake, road trips, backyard barbecues, and enjoying those last hot days before fall finally rolls in. With over 7,000 lakes and 80,000 miles of roads in our state, there’s no shortage of places to celebrate.

But here’s the important part — let’s make sure we all get through the weekend safely:

  • On the highways: Buckle up, slow down, and avoid distractions.

  • On the lakes: Wear your life jacket, watch your surroundings, and keep an eye on the weather.

  • Everywhere: Alcohol and driving never mix — whether you’re behind the wheel of a car or the helm of a boat.
