Why I’m Setting Goals (Not Resolutions) for 2026

As the year winds down, I always find myself reflecting—not just on what I did, but on what I learned. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s this: resolutions sound nice… but goals actually work.

So as we head into a brand-new year, I’m skipping resolutions and focusing on clear, intentional goals—the kind you can measure, track, adjust, and actually live with.

Here are a few things I’m doing differently as I prepare for 2026—and maybe they’ll spark some ideas for you, too.

1. Make Your Goals Measurable (But Meaningful)

A few years ago, I set a goal to take more steps every day. I picked a number, tracked it with my Fitbit, and guess what?
✔️ I hit my goal.

But here’s the honest part:
I got so focused on the number that I lost sight of the real purpose—being healthier overall.

So for 2026, I’m changing it up. I’m actually lowering my daily step goal and shifting my focus to weekly cardio and overall movement instead. Same intention, better balance.

👉 Lesson learned: Numbers are great, but they should serve the why, not replace it.

2. Put the Important Stuff on the Calendar Now

One of the best “adulting” moves I make each year?
📅 Scheduling doctor appointments early and getting them on the calendar.

When it’s already booked, it’s not a “someday” thing—it’s a done thing. Future me is always grateful.

Health, finances, family time—if it matters, schedule it.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help (or Accountability)

Some goals are solo. Others? Not so much.

If your goal depends on someone else—whether that’s a trainer, a financial advisor, a doctor, or even a friend—you’re not failing by asking for help. You’re being smart.

Support and accountability don’t make goals weaker.
They make them more achievable.

4. Leave Room to Adjust (That’s Not Quitting)

Goals aren’t contracts written in stone. Life changes. Priorities shift. Learning happens.

Adjusting a goal doesn’t mean you failed—it means you’re paying attention.

Heading Into the New Year…

As we wrap up this year and step into the next, I hope you give yourself permission to:

  • Reflect honestly

  • Set goals with intention

  • Ask for help when you need it

  • And focus on progress, not perfection

Tomorrow, I’ll be sharing a step-by-step guide for anyone whose 2026 goal includes buying a home—but today is all about getting your mindset right.

Here’s to a new year, new goals, and a path forward that actually fits your life. 🥂
