Memorial Day: Honoring Heroes, Chasing Hot Dogs, and Celebrating Home 🇺🇸

Memorial Day means different things to different people. For some, it’s the official kickoff to summer. For others, it’s a day of deep remembrance. For me? It’s a little of both—with a side of barbecue sauce and a dog determined to steal every hot dog in sight.

So yes, I’ll be out at the lake this weekend, probably sunburned in 15 minutes, trying to keep our four-legged bandit from snagging food off someone’s plate (again), and wondering why I thought white shorts were a good idea anywhere near barbecue sauce.

But I’ll also be taking a quiet moment to reflect on the real reason we have this day.

Freedom isn’t free. It was paid for by the sacrifice of brave men and women who wore the uniform, stood watch, and gave everything. While laughter, burgers, and backyard fun are part of how we celebrate, it’s gratitude that truly defines Memorial Day.

As a real estate agent, I spend a lot of time helping people find home. But Memorial Day reminds me just how lucky we are to have homes to return to—safe, free, and full of love—thanks to the sacrifices of those we honor today.

To our fallen heroes and their families: thank you doesn’t feel like enough, but we say it anyway—with full hearts and deep respect.

So whether you’re rearranging your patio furniture, planning the perfect cookout, or simply soaking in some quiet time with loved ones, I hope you take a moment to remember the meaning behind the day.

Heavenly Father,

On this Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We thank You for their courage, their sacrifice, and their unwavering dedication to protecting the freedoms we so often take for granted.

We lift up the families who carry the weight of loss every day—not just today. Wrap them in peace, surround them with love, and remind them their loved ones are never forgotten.

Let us never forget that the freedoms we enjoy were bought with a great price. May we live lives worthy of their sacrifice—with grateful hearts, kind words, and open hands.

Bless our nation, bless those who serve, and bless the homes we gather in.
