Since moving to Montgomery and making Lake Conroe home, my husband and I have enjoyed exploring the local food scene. While we don't always agree on which BBQ restaurant is the absolute best, we definitely agree that Montgomery has some fantastic options.

These aren't necessarily ranked from first to third because, let's be honest, that can change depending on what you're craving! These are simply three BBQ restaurants that we enjoy visiting again and again.

Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q

Rudy's is one of my personal favorites when I'm craving great Texas barbecue. Their brisket is consistently tender, the smoked chicken is flavorful, and the sausage always hits the spot.

One of my favorite things about Rudy's may surprise some people—it's the potato salad. I know it sounds a little unusual, but I love adding a little BBQ sauce to my potato salad. If you've never tried it, don't knock it until you do!

Another reason I love Rudy's is their Saturday specials. The prime rib and tenderloin are absolutely worth checking out and offer a nice change of pace while still delivering that delicious smoky flavor.

Their brisket has that classic smoky flavor that BBQ lovers appreciate, and their homemade sides are the perfect complement to any meal. It's also a great option when you're dining with a group since they offer burgers and other menu items for those who may not be in a barbecue mood.

Vernon's Kuntry Bar-B-Q

If you ask my husband where to get BBQ in Montgomery, Vernon's will probably be his answer every time.

One thing many people don't realize is that the BBQ restaurant and the famous catfish restaurant are actually across the street from each other. While the catfish location gets plenty of attention, don't overlook the smaller BBQ restaurant. It's full of character, local charm, and the kind of personality that makes you feel right at home.

The food is excellent, the atmosphere is uniquely Montgomery, and it's one of those places that reminds you why supporting local businesses matters.
